Critical infrastructure airspace monitoring works best when the record chain is separated into three stages: detection, confirmation, and response. Confusing these stages can create noisy alerts, slow decisions, and reports that are hard to defend after the event.

Detection is not the final answer

Detection may come from RF sensing, radar tracking, Remote ID review, perimeter observation, or an operator report. Its job is to create awareness and cue the next step. A useful detection record should include time, location, source, confidence level, and environmental notes where possible.

Confirmation adds review. EO/IR cameras, platform correlation, site cameras, or trained staff can help determine whether the detected activity is a drone, a permitted operation, another low-altitude object, or a false cue from the environment.

Response needs approval and traceability

Response should follow the site's approved procedure. For a refinery, substation, port, airport perimeter, or public venue, the right action may involve notifying the security team, checking a permitted flight list, contacting an operations owner, recording the event, or escalating to the responsible authority.

N-TET recommends that the platform record who reviewed the alert, what evidence was used, what decision was made, and what follow-up was required. This is especially important for sites where safety, continuity, and regulatory review matter.

A stronger audit trail

Separating records does not make the workflow more complicated. It makes the system easier to operate: sensors create evidence, operators confirm context, responsible staff approve action, and managers review the complete event history.

That structure is closer to how critical infrastructure teams actually work, and it makes low-altitude security easier to maintain after installation.
